In the Fire Garden

It's not often you can wander through a park after dark without keeping one eye on the shadows. But for three nights in September, Platt Fields Park was transformed into an enchanting Fire Garden. Tell us what you thought.

Installation de Feu
Description:An outdoor display of fire sculptures with live music after dark. In the Shakespearean Gardens and Ash Fields area of Platt Fields Park. From dusk til 11pm
Start Date:28/09/2006
End Date:30/09/2006
End Time:23:00
Prices:adult £1
child £1
Genres:Art, Kids & Family, Outdoors & Attractions
Venue Name:Platt Fields Park
Venue Town:Manchester

Installation de Feu is described by Manchester International Arts as 'a fairytale environment of fire sculptures in trees, behind bushes, along pathways, with live music animation'.

Thousands of visitors were able to wander through the park, looking at strings of firepots or burning fire sculptures - or just chill out and take in the fantasy landscape.

Installation de Feu
In the Fire Garden

Arranged and performed by French arts group Carabosse, it's the last of MIA's 'Enchanted Evenings' this summer and follows 'Insect' at Castlefield Arena featuring giant ants; a Midsummer Picnic in June and Circus Ronaldo in July, both in Platt Fields Park.

MIA - formerly Streets Ahead - have been responsible for Manchester's more unusual outdoor events, bringing some of Europe's more imaginative performers and artists to Manchester.

Their biggest success was the hugely popular Garden of Delights which ran for several years in Platt Fields Park over Whit Bank Holiday weekend but closed through lack of funding.

A really enjoyable evening with a difference. Congratulations to everyone involved and to the powers that be for allowing an event like this in this day and age of health and safety overkill. More of the same please.

I thought it was the most magical and beautiful experience I have had for a long time The organiser provdides the most exciting events, I do hope she was there on Saturday, when I visited, to see so many people just stunned by the whole spectical.... Terrific- how lucky we are to live in Manchester THANK YOU

Sophie
It was amazing. I was truely awed by it,I found it so serene and almost eerie.

Ting
They should do this in London.

Scott
An excellent event, couldn't have been better organised. Thoroughly enjoyed the event, slightly overcrowded but you can't help that. Great value & thought provoking. Kids loved it, more events like this please.

Platt Park was transformed into a playground/fire worship zone. Haha. I loved it. And so did my eleven week old daughter Marnie. It seemed to wake her up to her personality. She made so much noise when we got her home we were slightly taken aback. She seemed ecstatic. Hats off to Caraboose. Great situationism. Hats off to the park authorities as well - for being progressive. More of it!

Ronan

Geoff Lee
What an absolutely amazing event! I was expecting something on the scale of a garden, what I didn't expect was half of Platt Fields to be ablaze with various fire sculpture, burning pots strung from trees, flaming chandaliers, automata etc accompanied by a grizzled blues band playing their instruments strung from a tree above them. Nor the thousands of people that turned up to enjoy the event. Well done to MIA, not only for this but also the 'Insect' event earlier in the summer. I hope there are similar events lined up for next year. Brilliant stuff.

Mich
Abolutely beautiful. The music was fantastic too and set the ambience suberbly.

David
It was excellent. Fascinating and very different. Please do it again next year!

Joanne Mitchinson

James
Would this explain the balls of fire flying near my house in Altrincham on the 29th at around 11pm - 1am?

Salma
Absolutely magical! What a fantastic idea.

Paul Hurst
A fantastic display which turned out to be quite thought provoking! Situated so close to the 'Curry mile' it was also great to have a curry van on site too :-)

Matthew
I went last night and it was gorgeous. Stunning.
