The previously unseen pictures shows the huge blast as a white lorry, packed with 3,500kg of explosives, detonates in Manchester city centre in 1996. Flames shoot into the air as the bomb detonates at 2,500mph, followed by a huge plume of smoke rising above the city. More than 200 people were injured - mainly by flying glass - when the bomb exploded in Corporation St on 15 June 1996. But, thanks to a prompt response by the police to evacuate the city centre, no-one was killed.

The images were taken from a police helicopter hovering above the crime scene and were be used in any trial of arrested suspects. The aerial shots have been made available by Greater Manchester Police after they revealed there is now no realistic possibility of anyone being prosecuted for the attack. Police say that a recent review of the original investigation has concluded there's too little evidence to prosecute anyone suspected of being involved. |
