Last summer's Beethoven Experience included a concert series of all of the Beethoven symphonies coupled with a free download offer of the Symphonic Cycle from the BBC Radio 3 website.
The Orchestra thrilled audiences and critics alike with their performances of the Beethoven Symphonies over two weekends in May and June.
But it was the experiment by BBC Radio 3 and the BBC Phil to offer recordings of the concerts as free downloads which astonished everyone in the world of classical music.
The BBC3 website which offered the free downloads attracted a phenomenal 1.4 million requests from all over the world and was greeted as a revolution in classical music listening.
