Missing: Vincent Derrick

Hundreds of people go missing every year in Manchester. The vast majority return safe and sound within days but some don't. This is the case of Vinny Derrick who vanished without a trace after a night out in Manchester two years ago.

Missing person: Vincent Derrick (aka Vinny)

  • Age when missing: 28
  • Last seen: Jabez Clegg pub on Dover St, Manchester
  • When: Sat 30 August 2003
  • Description: 5ft 6ins tall, average build, short brown hair
  • Other characteristics: East Midlands accent

Vincent Derrick has been missing since Saturday August 30th 2003 but it’s his voice which you hear when you ring the family answering machine.

"It’s the last recording I ever got of his voice. I think if I deleted it to me it would just feel like I'm giving up on it," said his wife Vicky. “Sometime part of me still, two years on, does think he's going to walk back through my door one day.”

Vicky Derrick

Vinny, as he’s perhaps better known, was last seen leaving the Jabez Clegg night club on Dover Street, near the University of Manchester between 00:30 and 1am on that morning and it's thought that he got a lift, possibly in a taxi and was dropped off somewhere south of the city.

He’d been on a works night out but it seems he became separated from his colleagues during the evening and they left the club without him. Vinny’s wife and family are very concerned.

Vicky said: 'We hadn’t fallen out - we weren’t having married problems - and it just doesn’t make sense.''

At the time, he was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, blue denim Levi jeans and black lace up shoes. He had cufflinks in the design of a tap with ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ on.  He wore a silver ‘rope chain’ around his neck and a wedding ring.

If you have seen Vinny please call the National Missing Persons Helpline on Freephone 0500 700 700. All calls are free and confidential.
