 | | Christmas Tree Fire - six seconds |
The film shows a real cut tree, which has been in a dry warm home for several days, catching fire. Shockingly, within four seconds, the fire has engulfed the tree and by ten seconds, the whole of the room is filling with billowing smoke and flames. After 47 seconds, the room is entirely filled with deadly smoke. As the service point out, even if a person was awake in the room, they may not have time to escape.

County Fire Officer Barry Dixon says that the footage isn’t meant to scare people, just make them think when they’re around the tree. He added that if people follow simple safety advice, the dangers can be averted. "Before placing fairy lights on your tree make sure the wiring has been checked for splits," he explains. "Never put candles on or near your tree and make sure that presents placed under the tree are kept well away from anything which could ignite the wrapping paper."
Last Christmas, the service attended 129 accidental fires in the home and they’re hoping that thanks to the video, the number isn’t as high this year. |
