| What We Think: | "Mad as spoons and hyperactive as rabbits on heat, The Permissive Society are pushing ever closer to their goal of a wider audience with another clutch of spannered, raucous rock, filled with fun and handstands. Come on people, join the Society!" Chris Long |
The Permissive Society formed in the summer of 2003 under the name The Good Life. A gaggle of our American cousins were touting their wares under the same name so change was needed. As change leads to change, the four piece let rip with an unrivalled musical onslaught. 2004 has seen them develop into one of the most talked about unsigned bands in the country with interest from major labels and a whole host of other industry figures. The Permissive Society have big ideas to match the big sound. The elaborate and enthralling lacerations of singer Sean Gregson and the virtuoso execution of guitarist Joe Parkinson, backed by a solid barrage from the rhythm section of drummer Matthew McKeever and bass player Gary Dumbarton, have astounded and won over every audience they have played to. They are busy recording at the moment, with an industry mailing list as long as Olive Oil’s arms waiting to hear the music that 2005 will consume with the appetite of the Wyoming pie-eating team. The music is literally "baroque n roll" - it’s extravagant, it’s forceful, it’s delicate, it’s intelligent, it’s bluesy, it’s in your face, it’s sing along, it’s exciting. The Permissive Society want it more than they want oxygen and are prepared to lose limbs for the cause. Fortunately, they are good enough to get it. |
