The local lingo

Our Voices reporter, Gill Kearsley, has been talking to three different groups in Greater Manchester about local words they use and what they mean.


Salford Group

This is a group of Six Form media students from Pendleton College in Salford.

In the first clip they talk about the words they use to describe something unattractive.

In the second piece they discuss the word for mother.

Oldham Group

The Oldham group were made up of five members of a visually impaired hobby group.

Here they talk about toilets and about the van that used to visit the area collecting sewage.

Manchester Group

Michael Wilkinson, Seymour Mace and John Warburton
Comedians group

This group brought together three Manchester based comedians.

Two of them are originally from Manchester while the third is a Geordie.

In this clip they talk about the word 'chuck'.
