When you did you start Stand up comedy? I started doing stand up gigs in August 2000. But I've always been a stand up. You know - even at a young age I'd walk down the street and people would start to heckle me. When did you realize that you wanted to do stand up? When I realized that bikini models do all their own body oiling. Was there a turning point when you thought this is it this is what I really want to do? When my beautiful girlfriend asked me to choose between her and stand up - I thought about it for less than a second - and then realized there was no choice. I don't do stand up because I want to do it. I do it because I have to - it's one of the conditions of my parole. When people find out you're a comedian they quite often say - 'how can you say that I've seen your act'... or 'that must be scary I couldn't do that' and that's the key for me - I couldn't do anything else, doing something else would be scary. What's the most bizarre heckle you have ever had? When some drunken lady tipped wine over my head because the act before said something rude about her boyfriend. Most Memorable moment on stage? Organizing a show - where (without my knowledge) one of the acts turned out to be a long lost cousin of one of the members of the audience. They hadn't met each other for some 25 - 30 years. What's the worst gig? Worst gig was for the BBC - they're all b******s you know. They decided to pay us no money to play to their staff. Well we had the last laugh - as you get what you pay for. Thirty minutes before the show I start to throw up. Not through nerves but as luck would have it at that moment I got kidney stones. One of the acts used to be a doctor. So five minutes before I'm about to start the show he's stuffing suppositories into me. Like batteries into a furby. I go on walking like Michael Jackson after two weeks in a state penitentiary. I say: 'hello I'm your MC, I'm not doing too well, I hope you're all well' - to which I got the response 'no' ... the gig wasn't for BBC staff but BBC ex-staff. The whole room had been sacked that day. I was in pain, they were depressed, we were all crying and at the end of the evening I got taken to hospital by ambulance. Now it doesn't get any more rock and roll then that. What influences your material? Alcohol and drugs. What do you most like about being a stand up comic? The 10% discount at George. What do you like about Manchester comedy scene and the Northwest in General? There are many things I like about the Manchester comedy scene: the audiences are (comedy) literate and great, the venues are all wonderful are really well run, there are so many brilliant acts (right from the baby new acts that defy the 7th commandment of comedy that 'thou shall be s**t for the first two years' to all the great pro acts). Manchester's comedy circuit is vibrant and exciting. If you get a chance and you're lucky enough to live in or near Manchester go and see a comedy show. You owe it to yourself. But the thing I personally like most about the Manchester comedy scene is the girls.
