| Eccles Cake Day on GMR | Listen to GMR Breakfast on Friday 29 October between 0630 - 0900 on 95.1FM & 104.6FM. Or listen live online by clicking on the BBC Radio Player.
Come and see us outside Eccles library - and have an Eccles cake! |
We're disappointed that this delicious delicacy is disappearing and can't let it become a thing of the past. That's why we've come up with the idea of holding National Eccles Cake Day. The aim is to get as many people as possible eating an Eccles cake on this day to help preserve their future. And to encourage shops, restaurants, cafes and bakers to sell them. Already we have a large amount of support. Ian Stewart, the MP for Eccles; Cllr Stanley Whitkowski - the Mayor of Salford; Salford City Council; Cllr Pat Karney from Manchester City Council and six other MPs have said they will do all they can to help as well as the all the major bakers of Eccles cakes locally. Now it's your turn. Please eat a cake yourself on Friday 29th October and encourage as many of your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to do the same. And you can show your support for this local dish by e-mailing our Eccles Cake comments page (see under 'See Also' at the top of the page)
So, don't forget to listen to GMR Breakfast on Friday which will be live from Eccles (just next to Eccles library) when we'll be: - looking at the history of the Eccles cake
- speaking to local people about what makes them unique
- asking why we need to protect the future of our local foods
- attempting to set a world record for the number of Eccles Cakes stacked on top of one another!
