A Poem for Manchester

Entry to the Poem for Manchester competition has now closed.
Over the next few weeks the poems will be read and a shortlist of finalists will be announced on Monday August 23rd 2004.

Poetry Competition Facts
Total number of entries = 3,870
Total number of schools to participate = 100
Age range of entrants = nursery children to 76 year old
Entries came from across Manchester, plus further afield - Australia, USA and Hong Kong

The winning poem will be engraved into the fabric of the planned Piccadilly Place development of shops, offices and restaurants, linked to Piccadilly station by a new futuristic footbridge.

The Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion, will select a short-list of poems to be announced on Monday August 23rd when we will publish details on how you can vote for the winning poem.

The winning poem will be announced here and on BBC GMR on National Poetry Day, 7th October 2004.
