- work in progress - Patricia McKinnon-Day |
Stanley
Spencer's Shipbuilding is a dynamic series of large-scale, frieze-shaped
canvases depicting workers in their roles at Port Glasgow shipyard
during the Second World War.
Commissioned
by the War Artists' Advisory Committee in 1940, these paintings
were added to Imperial War Museum's collection shortly after the
War.
Spencer's
rarely shown drawings and preparatory sketches from the Museum's
extensive collection complement these epic paintings.

Birkenhead and to produce a new work in response to the theme of
shipbuilding.
This

that will be projected onto the stunning aluminium wall in Daniel
Libeskind's Special Exhibitions Gallery.
