The
Big Screen in Exchange Square |
The
Bigger Picture is a major film and visual arts project co-ordinated
by Cornerhouse for the 25 square metre video screen in Manchester's
Exchange Square.
The
Big Screen has already been showing BBC TV programmes as well as
screening special events such as the live Badly Drawn Boy concert
and major sporting fixtures.
From
2 October, The Bigger Picture will turn the screen into a special
platform for art and films made by local artists, filmmakers, students,
and community groups.

Forgetting
(the vanishing point) by Grace Weir |
The
Bigger Picture aims to reflect the vital cultural life of the North
West.
There
will be a public launch from 6pm - 7pm on Thursday 2 October, with
a special screening of work from The Bigger Picture, giving a taste
of the variety of work to be screened.
Highlights include Under the Same Sky, a community film featuring
young people from Afghanistan, Somalia, the Ukraine and Georgia
responding to life in Manchester.
The Box is a short film with Tilda Swinton as an alien stalking
through a time-lapsed cityscape and Grace Weir's exquisite film
installation Forgetting (the vanishing point) tracks the gradual
disappearance of a cloud in real time.
