Lorraine
is currently exhibiting at the 'Working in a Way' exhibition at
Bankley Studios Gallery in Levenshulme. She says, "My contribution
to the 'Working in a Way' Exhibition shows the documentation from
a site specific piece 'Angel' that I produced for St Philips in
Salford.
"The
Angel was produced by almost imperceptibly laser marking the Angel
image onto matching floor tiles, then dusting with forensic finger
printing powder (this leaves only the trace of an image until stimulated
by UV light).

"The
tiles were then laid over the existing floor design of the church.
I also built the lighting support for the UV tubes in the style
of a smaller lower level altar rail. A sensor activated the UV lights
as the viewer walked towards the altar.
"The
original piece is currently on its way to an exhibition in Barcelona.
The Gallery there is a former convent, the name of which translates
as the Chapel of Angels."
Lorraine
is originally from Chorley, Lancashire and is an artist with a placement
under the Arts Council’s ‘Setting Up Scheme’ for new practising
artists and designers.

The
original piece is currently on its way to an exhibition in Barcelona.

As
a ‘Setting Up Scheme’ artist Lorraine was eligible to apply for
a place on a pilot scheme course with City College Manchester aimed
at introducing artists to cutting edge new technology and seeing
how it influenced their practice, which she successfully got.
"This
course culminates in the exhibition in Barcelona, " she says.
The exhibition is planned to return to Manchester at a date to be
confirmed.
"So
far as I know this technique represents a totally new application
of laser marking."
