Relay attempt to capture Nessie

Inverness

The Queen's Jubilee Baton will attempt to capture the most famous Scottish resident on Sunday June 9, when the longest Relay in history hits the west coast of Scotland.

The Baton will be lowered into Loch Ness in the latest search for one of the world's most elusive prehistoric creatures.

Nessie watchers are hoping that the Baton's pulse-detection and lighting technology will be enough to attract the mythical creature and end decades of speculation about its true identity.

The visit to Inverness on Sunday is part of a 50-day Relay across the UK - five days of which are spent in Scotland.

After the search for 'Nessie' The Baton and Relay will travel to Inverness for an evening celebration with special guests including The Gold Medal Olympic Curling Team and Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy.

The Baton will be boarding the Jacobite Queen at Jacobite Cruises, Caledonian Canal, Inverness on Sunday June 9 at 1.30pm.

The Baton will travel the UK before returning to Manchester for the Opening Ceremony of the Games. Click here for the UK route.
