Young stars on track

Amy Spencer on the left

The new track at the City of Manchester Stadium gets a test run this weekend as it is the venue for the Great North Junior Athletics Championships.

Wigan born Amy Spencer heads the line up of talented young athletes taking part. At only 16, Amy won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award and is seen above winning her first senior title in the 200m final at the Norwich Union AAA Indoor Championships.

She will be using this event as vital preparation for the Commonwealth Trials on 15/16 June also at the City of Manchester stadium.

For Games organisers this is a great chance to test facilities at Sportcity.

Spectators are invited to come and lend their support to these stars of the future and get a sneak preview of the fantastic new facilities at Sportcity.

Tickets are available to purchase on the day from the North Car Park Ticket Booth priced at £3.

The action starts from 10.30am.
