Did you know...
Situated on the River Don, Sheffield is surrounded by seven hills that contain iron ore.
From the 12th century, iron smelting was Sheffield's chief industry, and by the 14th century, Sheffield cutlery, silverware, and plate were being made.
Famous Sheffielders include Peter Stringfellow (Owner of leading London nightspot "Stringfellows"), Michael Palin,(Actor, writer, broadcaster), Margaret Drabble (Novelist) and Sebastian Coe (Athlete).
Famous musicians associated with Sheffield include Jarvis Cocker (lead singer Pulp), Def Leppard, Human League and ABC.
The film The Full Monty was filmed on location in Sheffield.
