Did you know...
Manchester was originally a Roman camp (Mancunium or Mamucium), and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
Now it is the UK’s largest economic region outside London.
Manchester is one of the most fertile regions for rock and pop artists in the UK. Huge Manchester bands include Oasis, Take That, Simply Red, New Order, The Smiths and The BeeGees!
On Saturday 15 June 1996 a 3,000lb IRA bomb exploded in the centre of Manchester, devastating a wide area. Four years later, however, restoration is complete and, better than ever, Manchester is hosting the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
