Did you know...
Inverness is the capital of the Scottish Highlands.
South of Inverness lies Loch Ness - world famous, of course, because of the legendary Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as Nessie.
The area has been used as a location for several blockbusters - Macbeth, Rob Roy, Braveheart and, perhaps the best of all, Loch Ness starring Ted Danson.
The Field of Culloden, near Inverness, is the scene of the last pitched land battle fought on British soil.
The Marymas Fair is a traditional festival which was held every year from 1590 until 1850 on the feast day of Mary (August 15), and was then revived in 1986. Participants process from the cathedral through the city centre dressed in medieval style costumes.
