Baton Route

Giants Causeway will be celebrating the arrival of the Baton on Friday, 7 June 2002.

Return to the Full Route Details here.

Did you know...
The Causeway is a mass of 40,000 tightly packed basalt columns, forming stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most are hexagonal but some have four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 40 feet high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 90 feet thick in places.
The Giant’s Causeway was built, according to legend, by the giant Finn MacCool.
On the coast of Northern Ireland and covering an area of 120 square miles, the Borough is home to 55,000 people.
