Did you know...
Visitors can walk through the medieval passages which run under Exeter High Street. They were built to house the pipes that brought fresh water to the city.
Exeter was founded by the Roman army; around the year AD 55.
Exeter still holds the annual ceremony of the Proclamation of Lammas Fair, which dates back to before the Norman Conquest, more than 900 years ago.
It is claimed that the Ship Inn in Martins Lane was Sir Francis Drake's favourite inn.
Exeter's historic core has been designated as an Area of Archaeological Importance, one of only 5 such areas in England and Wales.
