Baton Route

Darlington will be celebrating the arrival of the Baton on Wednesday, 10 July 2002.

Return to the Full Route Details here.

Did you know...
Darlington's name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon Dearthington, which meant `the settlement of Deornoth's people'.
During the 17th and 18th Darlington was known as Darnton i' the Dirt - due to the then unpaved streets of the town.
On 19th April 1821 an Act of Parliament was passed that authorized the Stockton & Darlington Railway company to build a horse railway that would link the collieries in West Durham, Darlington and the River Tees at Stockton. This began the age of mass transportation.
