BBC Look North team start tweeting

Lily Allen, Stephen Fry and Number 10 Downing Street are all doing it. And now the BBC Look North weather team are joining them - posting updates on the social networking site Twitter.

We will be tweeting regular weather forecasts and observations as well as behind-the-scenes tweets from the studio.

We're also looking forward to getting tweets from you!

What is Twitter?

It's a site where you update your friends or fans on what you are doing using short messages - a bit like a Facebook status update. You can also post pictures and links.

What kind of messages do people post?

Anything and everything. Just like a text message, you get 140 characters for each update, which are known as tweets. Stephen Fry sent tweets from a Malaysian jungle while shooting a BBC documentary last month, while Lily Allen tweeted on-the-road during her recent tour of the States.

What will BBC Look North weather be tweeting?

We are going to tweet regular forecasts, weather facts and stats that catch our eye, winning weather pictures, as well as programme news and gossip from the weather desk.

How do I join?

It's easy. Click on the link above and follow the clicks to set up your free account.

Or if you are already on Twitter, follow the link above and then click to follow us. Once you follow us you will see our tweets every time you log in.

You can also choose to have tweets sent directly to your mobile phone.
