Mariam first began working for the BBC in 1991 as a freelance reporter for BBC Three Counties Radio, before progressing two years later to become a staff reporter.

Mariam spent five years with the station and says she enjoyed every minute of it.

In January 1996, Mariam arrived at BBC Look East to begin a six month attachment in television and ended up staying. Since then, she has had a variety of jobs, including reporting for East At Westminster, Ceefax and BBC News Online.

Mariam is now working part-time, reading the early morning news bulletins on BBC Look East and combining this with working for the BBC's Where I Live website for Norfolk.

In addition to this, Mariam is also studying for a part-time MA in film script development, which she hopes to pursue as part of her career in the future.

Away from presenting, Mariam enjoys eating out - especially curries - reading books and watching films. Her favourite day out in the east involves spending a day on any of the region's beaches.
