Ewan and Charley are triumphant as they reach the last border crossing of the trip – what a ride!

Standing next to the border sign, Ewan yells their destination.

'Look where we've got to, look! 'Welcome to South Africa'! We're in South Africa, we made it! We made it all the way down from John O' Groats to our last border crossing into South Africa. Well done mate!'

'Well done,' replies Charley. 'It's been an incredible journey really. It's just, fourteen countries!'

'Yeah, it's been brilliant,' agrees Ewan. 'But it's not quite over yet, we can't really start saying 'it's been this, that and the other' because we're not there yet. We've got a good 600 miles to do today and tomorrow, and if we can reflect, it's been the most amazing, amazing, amazing trip.'

Charley continues. 'It's just been wonderful, and we've been really privileged to be able to go through certain countries. I was just driving down there and thinking that Uganda was an amazing place to go to.'

'Yes, they loved your wheelies the best in Uganda, didn't they?' Ewan points out. 'All of those countries that end in 'a'! Namibia, Ethiopia, Botswana...'

'Kenya, Tunisia, Libya...' Charley adds.

Ewan laughs. 'What's with all of the 'a's at the end of the words?'

'So now we have to go and get our passports stamped for the last time, until we leave South Africa by airplane.' Ewan concludes. 'So, on two wheels, the last passport stamp, Charley and I are saying thanks for following our trip, and we'll see you in Cape Town.'

The guys get their passports stamped and Ewan shows us the date – 1 August 2007 ...

The trip was nearing its close, and you had plenty of messages for the team! See these below.

    Almost there....

I would give anything to have the chance to ride into Cape Town with Charlie and Ewan... it's going to be epic. If there's anything I could suggest, that would be to really breath in that fresh ocean air when you finally reach Cape Town. The first thing that hits when when venture out, it's the fresh air! Enjoy every last mile and breath in Africa.

What a trip! Now that you're close to the end of it, I want to thank you all, Charley, Ewan and everybody in the team, for sharing your trip with us. It's been great 'traveling' with you. I feel a bit sad now, but there'll be the book and DVD. I do hope you're already planning the next trip, which you will share with us again, soon! Thanks to the BBC for this forum, I liked reading the comments from people all over the world!

    Another crowning achievement

Well done, lads! When we hear about a country or a city that you visited on Long Way Round, we all feel that we've been there because you two took us along. We are all pleased your journey has brought you safely to South Africa. You must understand the two of you are making our world a little smaller - a little better. Thank you!
