Ewan and David are awestruck at the view across Paradise Lake.

‘Wow! It's even better that you can just see kind of half of it, it’s so mysterious and lovely, look. It's lovely, the air is amazing, and the trees, look. Everything about it is the Africa of your fantasies, isn't it, you know?’ Ewan adjusts his camera to get a better shot.

David agrees. ‘I like what you said earlier, which is totally how I feel, when you said, 'exactly as it should be'. You know? It's amazing how many moments we've had like that. Exactly as it should be.’

Ewan reflects on their good fortune. ‘We've been just so lucky on this trip. It's been amazing. So, I'm going home because I've had enough - haha!’

The journey up there was not so idyllic however …

Ewan commentates. ‘We've formed a small splinter group and we're going up to the Paradise Lake which is not far from where we were staying last night where we saw the elephants, which was surely one of the most amazing moments. There's just spectacular views, and lots more wildlife that we'll see up there.’

David studies the guide’s driving technique as he navigates the busy road. ‘It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who struggles on these roads, you know what I mean?’

Ewan’s already looking ahead to the trip back down … ‘There was quite a tricky bit on that road to come up here last night. And of course we're going to have to be going down hill, which is, I think, harder because all of your weight is on the front, you can’t use the front brake, and it’s raining! So it should be interesting trying to get down the hill today.’

    First Ride ...

Most riders can relate to their first ride. I vividly recall the first time riding a motorbike solo after obtaining my license ... what a fantastic moment! Remember guys - you don't have the "ups" without the "downs". Ride Safe, Richard T.

    Memorable Feeling:

Because I take smart chances and have lived fully in several countries, including Kenya, it's hard to find the top experience. However, I would say that one thing that I remember and miss about East Africa is the fact that you feel completely free of critical self consciousness. You are truly free to live, fully. Self-doubt evaporates in those huge skies. I think it took me a few months to realize that this lead weight of the critical mind was missing. Enjoy your time guys!!

    Magic moments

You can find them anywhere, just open your eyes and mind, they'll be there, even when you walk down your street... OK, there're the more spectacular ones, for me Grand Canyon, the temples at Angkor and the sun rising and setting over sugar cane fields in the Caribbean. My love to everybody on LWD and to everybody out there!

    Whale jumping

This is the link to the whales I saw in Monterey, CA. They are captured from the video that we took of them jumping out of the water so they're not huge photos or anything, but I still think it's quite amazing. I'll never forget it as long as I live. If I had the video on my laptop I'd post it instead. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a27/niblet0/Whale%20Watching%20in%20CA/

    LOVE Uganda, but...

So time for a bit of Luganda (local Ugandan language) idoms for survival in the Lake Victoria region. Okay lads, if the drivers get a bit crazy, try this: "Mwattu genda mpolampola!" (please slow down!) And then when you get there, "Kati tuli ludda wa?" (where are we now?) But the most important of all: "Buyonjo eri ludda wa?" (where is the loo?) Enjoy yourselves HALF as much as I love Uganda, and you will be having twice as much fun as I am here in Seattle just thinking about it!!! Scotty

    Live to Ride

Can't use the front brake going down that hill? Is it broken? Even in the dirt, the front brake is crucial but the GSA's you guys are riding have good engine braking anyway. I rarely use the rear brake on my GSA because of the Beemers great engine braking. Had enough? Ha ha you blokes will be home soon and then after a week or two at home you'll wish you were back out on the road again :) Iron Side Up Tads
