We've just heard back from the team. Check out the latest updates from the Egyptian leg of the journey.
Charley grabbed the opportunity to record a clip for us during an evening ride. 'Well, we are in the middle of Egypt and we're trying to get to Luxor. It's nine thirty in the evening and we've got about a two hour ride, so it's eleven thirty, twelve o' clock before we arrive in Luxor. Then wake up in the morning with the Pharaohs… I hope!'
Later, arriving to board the ferry in Aswan, the guys were surprised to find just how popular this part of their journey was. 'Here we are at the Port in Aswan, about to go down Lake Nasser to Sudan, explains Ewan. 'And we were told that there would be quite a lot of people, but I didn’t quite expect this much!' Taking in the crowds, Ewan states, ‘Pretty busy, huh?' 'Crazy, crazy!' agrees Charley.
We asked you if you'd come across the unexpected on your travels - see below for the comments you sent in.

Crowds
Well, this trip has been publicised more than LWR was so I'd expect the crowds. What do you reckon to them though, does it spoil the trip having to talk to so many people, or is it uplifting to see all their support? Love Shellie

Team Experience
Based on the web logs Long Way Down seems like the journey is much less of a personal thing for charley and ewan and more of a team experience this time. I hope this final edit is not dishonest and hides this fact.

LOL, ah, youth
One of my most favorite and most unprepared trips was when I took some summer classes at the University in Bath many years ago. We decided to ferry from Swansea to Cork. When we got to Cork and boarded the bus to go into town, we heard on the radio that Jack-O was in town and thousands of people were pouring into the Cork area for concerts. (We were wondering who the heck "Jack-O" was. He's not called that in the U.S. We found out in a hurry.) Needless to say, not a room to be had within miles of Cork. We did manage to look pitiful enough to a B&B owner. She let us sleep on her dining room floor each night, as long we were out each morning by 6:30. Bless her heart! It was an adventure and a wonderful trip. We also discovered the best fish & chips on The Pier in Kinsale. Be safe!

people..
in my experience the most unexpected are the people. But most of the time in a very positive way. Especially if you got to places where there are not so many tourists. There often is a tremendous hospitality even from poor people...sometimes it feels like these people are just lucky because they see that there are some people who are interested in their culture.

Egypt
Hi Charley, Ewan and the rest of the group ! Did you enjoy being in Egypt ? It's such a wonderful country. Could you take some time to visit some of the temples around Luxor ? Lake Nasser is also an incredible view. Beware of the crocodiles !! More seriously, take care and have fun.

Crowds...!?
Try Canada's Wonderland, just north of Toronto!!!! Insane line-ups for a 1min long roller coaster ride. In the meantime, I've been looking at some routes for a supposed North - South American ride. Thinking that Yellowknife,Fairbanks, or Anchorage might be good starting points?! Let us know!

Stuck in Copenhagen?
I was about to fly out of Denmark when a security strike in the Copenhagen airport halted all security checks for a few hours. Everyone worried about missing their flights and/or connections (and some passengers were affected) but the strike ended in time for most of us to catch our flights. Phew.

Great Job!
Doing a great job guys! - Loving the updates! As with any form of travel, the age old cliche stands: Always expect the unexpected. My most memorable unexpected event was being held at gunpoint when the security x-ray system at an airport thought my combination lock (in my carryon backpack) was a grenade ... oh what fun! --- Richard T
