Al Marj, Libya

In the Chris Moyles interview this week, Ewan mentioned the horrendous sand storm they encountered in Libya. His words didn’t do it justice as you can see from the clip!

Despite the extreme weather conditions, Claudio managed to check up on how everyone was holding up...

'We're gonna have to bale out everything really...' said a disgruntled Charley. Russ saw the funny side. 'The joke is, I was listening to 'Any Way The Wind Blows' by J.J Cale and then it went flat!'

Ewan coped the best he could: 'I had a bit of a tent emergency and then I sorted it. But I don’t know how we're going to deal with 445 miles after not having slept a wink...' while Jim considered his options: I'm stuck in a tent that I can't get out of, because otherwise it will fly away and end up in Egypt before I do!'

And the sand was causing technical problems for Claudio: 'It's all quite interesting filming, but its not very healthy for the camera. I can't turn it off now - the sand is already blocking the on and off button so let's see... I'll probably have to take off the battery to turn it off'.

We asked if you'd experienced dramatic weather conditions on your travels. Here's what you said.

    Never the same

A couple of things guys. Firstly my friend an I were inspired by LWR and did a 'lap o France'. Loved every minute, and we had no idea where we would end up from one day to the next (maybe you guys should try that, a 'Road to nowhere') We loved the interaction with local people, especially one day not being able to find a hotel, and one of the locals putting us up in a chateu for the night amazing. Secondly, and this is not really a downside. Weekend short rideouts just dont do it for me anymore. In fact I dont do Sunday rides, as there are so many wallies around it's dangerous. I think it's really funny how the three of you just kinda ride for the laugh (though i can see the serious side) and Russ is all 'Mr Sensible'. Good luck and happy riding.. Simon

    W LONG WAY DOWN!!!

Hy guys, how are you? I hope you're having fun, I'm sure this is a fantastic trip!! I loved "Long Way Round" and I can't wait to see the new episodes!! I hate today's television and all that horrible reality shows... they are boring and very stupid. I think that's just trash and I'm very happy that someone still devotes him to something interesting! Congratulations, you're great!!! Ewan, you're my favourite actor, you're fantastic!! Kisses, Roberta.

    Good stuff

I enjoy watching the logs, but can't help but think it might be cramping your ride. I just finished my first week long ride alone. I couldn't imagine doing the media stuff as well as the ride. I hope you find the time to just ride and ride and ride without worries. Keep the rubber side down guys, and enjoy the ride.

    take care

I can't see the videos at the moment, but reading the text I have to say again: take care guys! I think wind is one of the strongest natural enemy you can have on tour. Luckily I had never such a strong experience with a wind storm. But I was is a smaller one when I was a child. We were in Tunisia with our parents and slept in the desert in a Bedouin tent. In the morning my dad (who was sleeping in the first row) was looking like coated with bread crumbs. And leaving the tent we saw that ours was the only one that still stands. For the next night, my parents prefer a hotel ;o)

Great to watch you guys! Makes me get antsy whilst waiting to set up my own trip. Just thought you lads would like to know that Pedrosa has pole position after qualifying today.

    Bad Weather

I've had nothing to that extreme weather, but I once camped out in a huge storm, the thunder that woke me up was so loud I thought someone was banging a drum outside my tent for a laugh. I was also tryed and have a BBQ in pretty heavy rain a few weeks ago, it wasn't such a great idea... Take care guys!

    Sandstorms

Glad to see your spirits are not too dampened by the weather. A couple of months ago, our expedition was travelling through the Iranian desert, and were caught in a sandstorm, also suffering broken equipment problems, and were forced to seek shelter in a dome shaped ruin. As the winds rolled in, we sealed as many of the holes as we could to prevent the sand from blasting us, and we lit a fire, to cook some camel meat and rice. Just as the storm hit full force, our team had to then take shelter in the vehicles, for a sandblasted dinner and night. Read about it in full in our journals, or on www.lonewolftransglobal.com

    bad weather

Wow, that's tough! I hope the wind dies down soon though. My bad weather experience comes from boats and planes. Sure it was no hurricane but it was very ummm.. uncomfortable. Have you ever been on a boat at a stormy sea? Some enjoy it - I DON'T. And the thing is, I'm not even afraid that the boat will sink - I'm most afraid of being sick and throwing up in it! I'll keep my fingers crossed about the weather! Good luck!
