Cravings

When I was in Uganda last summer, one of my friends and I would pass slow moments by fantasizing about the quesadilla we were going to split as soon as we set foot back in the States. And on our layover in Washington, DC, we did just that. After a month of matooke, rice, and tilapia, it tasted marvelous but was probably not quite what my digestive system had in mind. I didn't care, though--the cramps were worth it!

It is so exciting following you guys. We were hooked on Long Way Round, then Charley's Race to Dakar - now you're travelling down to my home town. Moved to UK from Cape Town 10 years ago but my entire family still live there and as I bought them all your last DVD series, which has done the rounds several times, they're waiting with baited breath for your arrival !

craving food

Well, when I was in Germany for around 8 months,, many many years ago, I craved Pizza. They did not have pizza there at the time I was there, and that is the first thing I wanted when I came home. Plus, something that has nothing to do with food, but I craved a nice hot bath that I didn't have to heat the water up for.[no hot running water]
But is does sound like you guys are having lots of interesting foods to eat, and you may as well enjoy all the different things to eat because you may never get the chance to eat them again.!!! [but who knows, you may not want to eat them again!!!!]
I am so enjoying all of these videos and updates.
I am looking forward to the documentary and hopefully a couple of books. And please get everything out to the USA as soon as possible!!!Thanks
Ride safe and be safe--Char

Ah, the Wild Life coming your way!

Hi Ewan, Charley, all the LWD team... RTW-scooter-crusader Tom here...

Your reports and videos of the incredible diversity you are experiencing are fantastic! You put me in mind of my ride through Egypt and the Sudan. Thank you for your reports on Ethiopia - it looks breathtaking! Your odyssey is truly enlightening. I can hardly wait for the TV series, DVD and book...

Now on to Kenya where the WANANCHI (inhabitants) and WANYAMA (animals) come out to play. Watch out for baboons along the road - they can be very territorial!

Will you be going to Mt. Kilimanjaro?

Ride Safe. Ride Well.

Proper Cadbury's chocolate. It's just not the same in hot countries, made to a different recipe so it's got a higher melting point, it's not sweet enough! I also miss Yorkshire puddings and Cumberland sausage!

Nice to try new things too, though. Love Shellie

Things I missed the most

Funny but the last time I went on a trip our diets were terrible. It was only four days but by the time I got home all I wanted was green salad. I ate a huge bowl of Romaine lettuce salad and went straight to bed for some recreation and then some rest. I missed those things too.

What food I miss?? Well...

...frikadeller (fried pork meat balls) with boiled potatoes and gravy is always a hit, and also thick, sliced bacon with parsley sauce and boiled potatoes - yum!

But my all-time danish fave dinner is roast pork with gravy, boiled and/or caramelised potatoes, red cabbage salad with orange and maybe some cranberry jelly on the side.
Ai, what a pleasant taste, and slightly uncomfortable filled stomach I get, when I have had that for dinner! Love it! :oD
It's basically a very traditional danish christmas dinner (- minus the roast duck...), but I don't mind eating this in the summer, too. :-)

Be careful with your stomachs, guys, and with what you eat - am thinking 'bout hygiene here.

Take care, ride safe and have fun. :-)

Okay this is gonna sound reallly strange but what I miss the most when I'm away from home( besides my mom's cooking, she rocks!) are these great big peproni rolls.

The local Walmart around here sells them for like 2 dollars a bag but there's only 4.

They are about the size of a small dinner plate, but they are really good. One of them would do for a lunch! LOL. keep safe and stay sane!Enjoy all that Africa has to offer you!

In Korea, in our first year we couldn't get cheese. Or Cheerios. We had to trek to Seoul to a Western wholesale store. Now that's a long way round for Honey nut goodness!

miles to go ?

I'm a bit confused. When you were talking to Chris on the 28.06.07 at the top of the log page it said "Day 48-6091 miles to go." But Ewan says you have done 8500 t0 9000 miles and you are not yet halfway. Was the initial 15000 miles an estimate "as the crow flies" between major towns on route? Please explain. If you continue to count down from 15000 you will run out of miles before you run out of road!
