Well i don't have much advice to give. it seems like no matter what you guys do it always ends up ok (staying with ukrainian mobsters, crossing violent rivers, eating bull testicles, being trasfomed into 'manimole', etc) Best of luck, and i think it is great u guys help charities along the way :)

Check out the University of Zambia campus. We lived inside the campus when I was a kid and my dad was teaching AgriScience there. There's even a teaching farm nearby. I have vague but pleasant memories about the place. Looking forward to seeing your trip unfold and substantiate some blurry childhood memories! Best of Luck Guys. Am so jealous. Make the most of Namibia. Truly spectacular for open space. Must do Sceleton Coast North to South. Rolling your sleeping bag out in the desert and sleeping under the stars (no tent) is special - if you dare. Found fresh leopard tracks 20 metres away last time I did that. Enjoy.

Doros Crater in Namibia for the rare desert black rhino (Save the Rhino Trust) then south to the Ugab river crossing and then west to the sceleton coast. Cannot be beaten. Paul Brehem is the man that knows.

I still can't believe of all the places you went and all the treacherous terrains you faced, you were almost killed HERE - in Canada! I know it was in Calgary and not Toronto, but I still feel awful. Hello you two, What a second epic adventure, I admire you both greatly but hai these sort of challenges just have to be done. I became a paraplegic after a mortorcycle & I were forced to argue with a crash barrier! Anyway after a bit of hard work I still managed - Lands End to Jon O Groats on a Zepher 750 combination & am still riding today (XJR1300) & frequent the Isle of Man for the TT, this is certainly a gert challenge but fab, You enjoy as much as & take care All the very best. This will be a fantastic challenge. Looking at your route you will be hitting east africa during rainy season. This will may cause difficulties on smaller roads. Petrol in africa (at least in east africa) has quite high methanol content this may cause problems with the fuel injection system on the BMW's. Keep your water filtering equipment close by as clean water is hard to find! Remember to reserve lots of time for boarder crossings... Enjoy africa - I'm really envious.

I loved Long Way Round, wound up reading the book in sync with the series on Sky, got the dvd for my birthday too. Race to Dakar didn't disappoint either & I've got the book & dvd of that too. You guys are doing things that many would love to do, I know I would anyway. So.. try & get the book out by November (my 30th birthday) & the dvd box set by christmas eh?? Take Care!!

While in Egypt must do the Pyramids, buckshee will get you in most restrictive places. You will enjoying crawling around the tomb tunnels. Visit Saqqara and Memphis, very hot. If you take the way down to Luxor, Dendra temple is fascinating, again buckshee is useful. Aswan, the Isis hotel on its own little Island, nice place to stay. Long ride to Aba-simbul, don't forget to water the trees half way stop. Zambia, Vicky falls do a bit of bungee. Just over the bridge in Zimbabwe, Kingdom hotel, very good place to stop over. Johannesburg famous for its gold mining, you could go caving or sand boarding. That�s as far as I have been in Africa. Good luck.

Why stop at Cape Town? Cape Point is the most south-western point of Africa. The southern most tip of Africa is Cape Aghulas - another 100 miles or so - why not go the whole way? Good luck & have a safe trip

Hello there..! I must say that after I watched Long Way Round, it convinced me to get myself my bike licence and a bike. My wife was not to keen on the idea, but it has happened. But now she loves riding. Thanks guys. I am looking to get into similar events as I love riding and love charity work. I think that doing a trip like that would be unbelievable. My wife and I are both moving to Scotland soon so that will be interesting. Maybe catch you there sometime Ewan "haha" go for a ride ;-).

After years without deciding whether to buy a motorcycle or not, I bought it and travelling on her is amazing. Hi It's great to see your off again we have watched the long way round so many times the kids are about too leave home. So we need a new advwnture to watch. We recently did a trip around WA on 2 BMW GS's 1150 & a 650 we took our teenage kids, camped all the way, and loved every minute of it. So cant wait for the new CD.

The Slightly Easier Way Down

Another great journey, but would you or could you ever do it without all of the support and back-up staff? I know loads of guys who do trans-continental trips single handedly and experience all the associated dangers that go with it. Don't get me wrong, well done and it makes for great viewing, but it takes a sunstantial edge off being a true overland motorcyle adventurer when you have a back up team of medical experts, security consultants, administrative officers, pillow fluffers etc etc.
