First off...thanks for doing this trip as I have seen the LWR too many times (During the winter)and miss seein you guys on the box. I have turned my garage into my own Tour HQ. Planning to do a charity run across India for charity in 08 and a few mini distance trips to test out the kit this year. You have opened the eyes to a lot of people that bikers are not all speed freaks and there are lots of us out to live life and raise some money for others. Remember when the going get rough blame Claudio!

If you get sick of camping African rest houses are cheap, usually clean & you get to see so much life. The long drops are often not so good so we found a bush dump a bit more pleasant

Hello everyone at Long Way Down. How exciting that you are on your way to Cape Town, but still a long way away. I live near the winelands in the Bellville/Durbanville area outside Cape Town. The route shows you going right past there and along the N1 into Cape Town.

If people ask about South Africa, the truth is that it is not very safe. The roads are not safe and especially when you get to cities there are a lot of poor people on the roads and beggers. Most will not harm you but you need to be aware of everything. Also, it is winter here but it would be great to go up Table Mountain in the afternoon and watch the sunset and the 'table cloth' come over. It truly is amazing.

Willowbridge in Bellville is an open air shopping centre; obviously the Waterfront is very nice. There is a restuarant in Cavendish Mall called JB Rivers that is absolutely excellent. There are lots of beautiful views - drive over the Kommetjie pass to Fish Hoek and Noordhoek and along the Chapman's Peak road into Hout Bay (there is a toll). Newlands and Kirstenbosch Gardens are beautiful too. There are many 'back roads' through the winelands and farmlands that are long and winding and beautiful to ride on bikes. LWR was for me what I am sure it was for many others - the push I needed to finally get on a nd learn how to ride! I have now passed my CBT and am the proud owner of a Kawasaki 125 (don't laugh) with the intention of taking my direct access later this year. So, thanks for the inspiration. Enjoy LWD and keep encouraging all those that just need that little bit more inspriration!!

I have just found out about long way round and loved it. It affected me in such as way that when I got to the end of it I felt like I was watching my mates on an incredible journey and now I want to learn to ride a motor cycle. You guys are so down to earth, inspiring and just beautiful people. The world is a better place with people like you in it. After living in Laos for a few years and falling in love with the combination of motorbikes (Honda Baja 250s) and semi-epic (at least they felt like they were!) journeying through total wildness, I absolutely loved 'Long Way Round' when i caught up with it. Just saw the link for the new trip on BBC - over the moon, a little jealous and can't wait to see the adventures. Already looking forward to South America too. Have fun guys and I'd definitely recommend a pedal through Laos sometime!

Ned was bowled over meeting Charley in Germany earlier this year and very excited about the 2 of you doing another trip. I heard the story often after he returned. We did our own mini trip around Europe a couple of years ago on Ned's Triumph Rocket III and would love to do what you guys are doing and have done. Wish you all the best of luck and safe journey.
