Producer
Bill Kenwright has assembled a star-studded cast for this
fascinating revival of Somerset Maugham’s comedy about a
wife with very modern opinions about marriage.
Jenny
Seagrove plays Constance, who finds that although she still
loves her husband she isn’t in love with him, and she rewrites the
marital rules accordingly, including turning a blind eye to his
affair with her best friend.
The acting is strident and the production rather obvious.
It’s a shame that director Edward Hall couldn’t have been
a little more imaginative but Seagrove, Sara Crowe, Serena
Evans, Lucy Fleming, Steven Pacey, Linda Thorson
and Simon Williams all turn in comfortable star turns.
This
play still has the power to provoke debate and it’s an entertaining
night out.
