Fed
up with hi-tech kids games and super rides at theme parks? Well
why not take a step back in time and smell the candy-floss
on a more traditional family day out.
Carters
Steam Fair features rides which originate from the early
part of last century, including Dodgems, swing boats,
steam gallopers and yachts, and beautiful old-style
living vans.
A free
firework display is being shown on Saturday night and the fair
continues on Sunday.
Music
Stop The Hiding
Streatham Common, SW16 Streatham Station (Thameslink) Free/12noon
- 8pm
A
groove-filled, yet serious, afternoon out for kids and adults
at the Stop The Hiding free festival which aims to raise
awareness of domestic violence, as well as cash for the cause.
Choose
between the four arenas made up of the main stage, the Access
All Areas dance tent, the Stop The Hidiing dance tent and the live
acoustic tent. DJ regulars from Bug Bar, Fridge and Ministry in
attendance.
And
if none of that takes your fancy you can head to the kids or
healing arenas, stalls or sound systems and enjoy
a spot of yoga or tarot card reading.
Theatre
Merlin The Magnificent
Open Air Theatre, Inner Circle, Regents Park, NW1 Tube: Baker Street
11am/£8.50, concessions £6
This
piece of open air theatre is aimed mainly at children and
is a retelling of the sword in the stone legend with wizards
fighting over the soul of Arthur.
There
is a musical twist to the show with Jazz and rap numbers
and audience participation which is somewhat panto-esque
and child-pleasing.
Brightly
coloured costumes and plenty of energy keep the show on the
move.
