Underworld made a sizzling London homecoming at this one-off gig in the splendid surroundings of Somerset House.

"The band's beats were ably set off by an effective light show, and Somerset House lived up to the expectations of such a regal venue..."
As the fiery midday temperatures receded to a glorious, balmy summer evening, the masters of their art started to weave their audio magic.

Shades of Café del Mar abounded as the relaxed crowd warmed to the duo's infectious beats-n-tweaks.

All the Underworld favourites were present and correct, effortlessly leading the crowd through a series of crescendos and lulls, with frontman Karl Hyde putting in a dominating vocal performance to match the seamless wizardry emanating from behind the mixing desk.

mesmeric beats

Shortly after surprising the crowd with the ever popular Trainspotting anthem 'Born Slippy', they did away with the formalities of a 'staged encore', and used the extra time to perform two more tracks.

Underworld's mesmeric beats were ably set off by an understated yet effective light show, and Somerset House lived up to the expectations of such a regal venue.

The band's two remaining conspirators, Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, successfully proved that while Darren Emerson will never be forgotten, he won't be missed either.
