The Bees This is an absolute belter, featuring a wicked backbeat and madder than mad lyrics that leave a Cheshire cat smile across your face.

It's what I call a single and it seems you cats and chicks agree, making it the People's Choice on my Saturday radio show. Check the boss album Free The Bees, from which it comes, if you haven't done so already - it was one of my faves of last year.

Vincent Vincent And The Villains These four young London guns look good and boy, do they sound good. They've been playing the gig circuit across the capital for some time now, polishing their chops, and have been described as "the Libertines on prom night".

On the evidence of this cool, boppin' and swingin' affair, dedicated to those unlucky in affairs of the heart, they've got it...baby. Support slots with Morrissey must surely beckon.

Marvin Gaye The UK has always enjoyed a love affair with the sounds of this legendary Detroit label, stretching all the way back to the capital's sharp-dressed, dance-crazy Mods, and this accompanying CD to the photo exhibition 'Hitsville UK: Motown In Britain' (at Redferns Music Picture Gallery in west London) is a sizzling compilation that snaps, crackles and pops in all the right places.

Thrill again to obvious classics from the likes of the Supremes, the Four Tops and Marvin Gaye (pictured above) plus lesser known gems from the Elgins, R. Dean Taylor and our very own Kiki Dee - and marvel at the wonder and talent of a pool of artists, writers and producers who truly understood the power of the seven-inch single.
