According to the tour diary on their website - see column on left - this band works about 365 days a year (and 366 in leap years!).

"Armed only with his voice, guitar and mouth organ, singer Pete Hayes sent shivers down everyone's spine..."

So, they can be forgiven for looking a bit tired – and admired for not sounding in the least bit tired!

The free gig these three workaholics treated us to in Hammersmith was smashing.

Whenever a stage turns black and smoky, and the first few notes of a Johnny Cash song became audible, it's clear BRMC can't be far away.

They started off with the already classic-sounding 'In Like The Rose' and 'Spread Your Love', followed by the lesser-known 'Ha Ha High Babe' and 'Down Here'.

veteran rockers

For me, the highlight of this show was the solo performance of 'Complicated Situation' by singer/guitarist Peter Hayes.

Armed only with his voice, guitar and a mouth organ, he sent cold shivers down everyone's (sweaty) spine.

The show proved that the band's hard work is paying off.

Had they just been very accomplished musicians in 2003, they now deserve the title of veteran rockers in 2004.

I only hope they get the break they so richly deserve - and soon.
