art & exhibitions
Part of the J-Street Project by Susan HillerUS born artist Susan Hiller spent three years travelling around contemporary Germany for The J-Street Project, opening on Thursday (14 April) at the Timothy Taylor Gallery, 24 Dering Street W1.

Her purpose was to visit and document all 303 roads, streets and paths whose names refer to a Jewish presence. The resulting exhibition, including a large scale wall-based installation, a series of pigment photographs and a video projection, is a testimony to absence and landscape's "capacity to memorialise". Runs to 21 May.

A journey also informs James Gooding's first solo London photography show at the Florence Gallery, 91 Great Russell Street WC1, from Thursday (14 April).

State is the result of 14 months on the road in the USA, during which time the Essex born former model and boyfriend of Kylie Minogue managed to collect four speeding tickets, two cautions and get himself arrested. His work is an outsider's view about "the loss of character and identity in the american environment". Runs to 14 May.
