In Velvet Goldmine, Christian Bale and the band Placebo run through Exchange Square's Bank Station and Lothbury to see a Glam Rock concert. The Stanley Buildings (King's Cross) also appear in the movie, where Christian Bale and Ewan Macgregor hang out after the "Death of Glitter" Concert.

Does anyone know of films, especially old ones, that show scenes of Battersea and Wandsworth, or Woolwich? I know about Sabotage, Alfie, A Clockwork Orange, The Lavender Hill Mob, and Up the Junction... The Survey of London, the official history of London's buildings run by English Heritage, is about to start work on researching Battersea and Woolwich and we're always keen to see old photos and film -especially of buildings that have succumbed to the wrecking ball. I was working in Powis Street, Woolwich last year while shooting was taking place for Children Of Men right outside our office. In fact the office appears briefly at the end of the movie. They "distressed" the frontage of the office for filming and failed to replace it when they left. They also prevented us from entering or leaving the office. All a major pain. Great movie though.

In the late 50's the Peter Sellers film "The Smallest Show On Earth" featured The Gaumont Cinema, Hammersmith (now The Hammersmith Apollo). Two of the stars Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna are seen walking towards the entrance where a group of schoolchildren are queuing. I was one of them and my fee was a free ice cream!

Anytime I pass the main entrance and lobby of the Grosvenor House it brings to mind a classic. Scenes from 'Sexy Beast' staring Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley were shot there.
