No resignations over points deductions

Listen to Conference Chairman Brian Lee with his views on the points deductions, promotion and relegation and the financial state of the highest clubs in Non League football

"As far as I'm concerned it's over"

Speaking to the BBC Non League Football Show Conference Chairman Brian Lee says he has no intention of resigning over his involvement in the ongoing debate into player registrations.

The Football Conference held an internal review after Oxford, Crawley, Bognor and Mansfield were punished for offences relating to the registration of players.

The clubs were docked points for fielding players who had not been properly registered with the league.

Under league rules each club must provide documentation to officials and receive confirmation before fielding a player.

Lee said he is comfortable with the process that led to points deductions and backed the findings of an internal review saying it was just coincidence that four clubs had ended up fielding unregistered players in one season.

In the first part of his interview with the Non League Football Show, Lee said as far as he was concerned the matter was now over.

During the interview Lee spoke about the future PR of the league and of sponsors Blue Square. The Chairman also went on to talk about ground grading and promotion in relation to Hampton and Richmond, and the financial state of the league

"Why should I resign?"

In the final part of our interview with Brian Lee we asked him some of your questions, from whether he should resign to whether or not a flat fine for points deductions would be the way forward from next season

The Chairman of the COnference has come across as a chap who feels he or the league he chairs is always in the right and seems to be able to strictly asdhere to rules when it suits or ignore when it doesn't. This is particularly the case with the Hampton Ground fiasco. Compassion would be reasonable if the club had submitted, plans, they had been approved and finances were in place with a builder instructed. Where is the need for compassion when the club will not have its application for planning heard until after the Play Offs have ended. That is simply incompetence on behalf of the football club concerend. If you stick to the rules you have made you find that clubs wont chance their arm so much in the future. Welling Utd could / should be playing for a place in the play offs tomorrow and hence attract a bumper crowd. The publicity for this is being denied them though as at 4.00pm the day before the game still noone knows. Only a fool would defend such a ridiculous situation and so Mr Lee you qualify as one.PS Very good interview style, knew your stuff, though arguably he could have been grilled a bit more on some of the situations discussed

The situation we find ourselves in due to the Conferences refusal to adhere to their rules RE planning and implementation of Ground Improvements, is a disgrace. Hampton seem to be given extra time and no one knows what is happening. Clubs like Welling and Bath City who have spend the money on the ground to be compliant have to wait to see if the Conference will let a team that chose to spend it on the team not the ground. This is a joke and unfair.Lets hope the Chairman adheres to his own rules, and those that play by the rules are not worse off - to those who gain an unfair advantage and ignore the rules. The tea cups could well go flying if the Conference give Hampton un unfair advantage and preferential treatment.
