On Sunday 7th December 2008, BBC LONDON revealed the 15 winners of this year's  BBC London Sports Awards. Edna Harrison from Croydon who runs Evergreens 50+ Activity Group in Carshalton

Short listing for Awards


BBC sports staff in London compiled a shortlist of candidates for each award. These were put to a BBC panel, comprised of BBC staff and sports people from across London, who decided the overall winners.

On this year’s panel the judges were: Mike Lawrence, Phil Parry and Billy Reeves (all BBC London Sport Journalists), Steve Ashton (BBC London Regional Advisory Council Member) and Matthew Porter (Chief Executive Leyton Orient FC and Matchroom Sports).

Rising Male and Rising Female:
The winners have achieved a high standard of performance throughout 2008 and are both aged 18 years or under on 31st December 2008. This Award was supported by Sport England which agreed the nominees and winners with BBC London Sports Staff.

Unsung Hero Award:
The public were invited to nominate their Unsung Heroes however the nominations closed on the 31st October 2008.
