BBC London 94.9 presenter Jazzie B

Jazzie B almost silenced

A security alert almost silenced Jazzie B's silent dance in Trafalgar Square on Sunday 6th July.

As the BBC London 94.9 DJ prepared to play an exclusive set that'd only be heard by dancers by listening to the radio with headphones, an abandoned bag meant police evacuated the area.

At the same time, it started to rain heavily and organisers had to decide whether to press ahead with plans for the silent boogie.

But, after a short period of time, the crowd was allowed back in the Square and the dance went ahead on time if not a little wet.

Big screens told people to tune their mobile phones or MP3 players into 94.9 fm where Jazzie's exclusive mix celebrating 20 years of Soul to Soul was broadcast.

On stage, he was joined by Caroline Parker who signed the lyrics to the track.
In the crowd, a number of people grooved in silence, some sharing headphones while others  looked baffled!!

Jazzie remarked afterwards, "That's probably the strangest gig I've ever played."

The stunt was part of Big Dance, a festival of dance events across London organised by the Mayors Office.

Earlier, in Trafalgar Square BBC London presenters Lesley Joseph and Christopher Biggins hosted dance performances on stage.
