The Brit Mix production team head for the studio

The Brit Mix

Brit FM recently made a welcome return to the BBC London studio, at Rich Mix in Bethnal Green, to record a special show exploring the issues surrounding knife and gun crime amongst young people in London.

Brit FM is the radio station for the Brit School in Croydon, Britain's only free performing arts and technology school.

The station broadcasts full time on the internet and once a year, on FM, to the local community.

Following in the footsteps of previous Brit FM programme makers, six aspiring students produced and presented "The Brit Mix".

The show not only looks at the problems facing young people caught up in gang related violence but also focuses on young people who are taking positive steps to make their mark in our ultra competitive society.

Nicole and Josh practice their cues

Presenters, Nicole Corbin & Josh Osbourne, along with reporters, Georgina Oakford and Tanya Eddowes draw a range of views from young people on combating gun and knife crime.

Some want to see tougher sentencing meted out to perpetrators, more responsible guidance from parents and less violence on television and in films.

Others feel poor education, poverty of opportunity and peer pressure are the root of the problem.

What do you think?
