Dozens of local people challenged Mr Wicks at a public meeting in Croydon’s Clocktower. The meeting was organised by Croydon Friends of the Earth as part of a national campaign which is urging the Government to make the Climate Change Bill tougher.
The Bill which is about to be debated by the Commons is set to become law in August but, campaigners like Friends of the Earth, say as it stands, [excluding aviation and shipping] it does not go far enough. encouragingJenni Hollis, Croydon Friends of the Earth Group spokesperson, said: "The event was a great success for Croydon Friends of the Earth and for the fight for a stronger Climate Change Bill. The room was packed, and the people quizzed Malcolm relentlessly. We were very encouraged by his hinting that an 80% emissions reduction target is virtually inevitable and we call on him to support its inclusion in the Bill.” To find our more about the previous demonstration, click onto link top right hand of this page.
