At Steven Lane and others in favour of term limits: Why shouldn't Ken get a third term if the electorate wish to cast their votes for him? The mayor's power is held in check by the London Assembly. The fact that elections in the UK are so free ensures a level of volatility in who is selected to the Assembly and they have a significant influence on the mayor. Term limits restrict the potential for a mayor who is popular and performing satisfactorily from remaining in the position that is right for them and their electorate. Please note I am talking in general and not specifically about the incumbent mayor.

All the candidates say they will retain the Freedom Pass. How do they answer the blatant discrimination against pensioners from outside London who have to fund London`s transport through taxes (billions to Crossrail, millions for Croydon tramlink, millions for the tube modernisation) but do not have the same rights to free transport either in London or their home county.BLATANT DISCRIMINATION

Why should Ken get a third term. Oher countries (whith constitutions) only allow two terms for a reason.That reason is that power corrupts and so this rule stops anyone from being corrupt for more than 8 years.If Ken is voted in again, wht will stop him from stealing even more money from the hardworkng pople of London?

we are only 1/10 of Britain in greater London and I feel our issues are repeatedly reported nationally.People are becoming fed up of the whole London debate and the candidates are making us a bit of a laughing stock.Claude.

I am not linked with London or any political party, I have just viewed the Sunday Politics programme on the BBC and find that the process of inviting Boris Johnson to make comment against his opponents verses the directive of 'make a comment against' B Johnson by his two opponents rather a disgrace. What happened to political reporting being unbiased????

Here we go, its the usual the stiff upper lip response of the average english man! Andrew Neil doe a fine job, exposing all of their wrongs, and didn't give any of the candidates a chance to settle. Andrew Neil got answers, but the candidates where all too corrupt to make any sense, so Neil blew them away! The crowd was great, their opinions where voiced! Our unwilligness to pipe up and be vocal has too often been the real embarrassment!

As with most programmes featuring Andrew Neil, this was all about HIM and nothing to do with the serious issues. How can the BBC honestly claim to be providing a public service when in place of debate it offers this insulting, self-aggrandising circus starring Mr Neil and his scriptwriters.

A little harsh I think.There have been many televised debates already, and I'm sure there will be more; some of them need to be fun to get quite a large percentage (in my experience) of Londoners to even name all three candidates...

Couldn't agree more with the comments below. Surely the job of Andrew Neil was to actually get some answers from the candidates and push them into saying something concrete - not just bland statements. The whole thing was a joke. Not a debate at all

I agree that the host, Andrew Neil, completely spoilt the opportunity to have a sensible debate in order for viewers to understand each candidates policies. Audience questions were hijacked by the host in order to try and provoke some confrontation or create entertainment. I for one will now go to the website of each candidate to try and comprehaned what matters for a majority of Londoners, their policies!

I feel the debate televised last night was an embarrassment to London. It was a circus with clowns in the audience and a Ring Master presenting. The constant heckling, sneering and belly laughter from the mob made a mockery of what should have been a serious debate. Far from giving the top three runners a chance to put across their plans and policies for the future of London, the program’s production simply ridiculed and belittled the serious of the subject matter. Shame on the BBC and the pathetic so called ‘Londoners’ that attended.

Forget the candidates. The real loser in last night's mayoral debate was Andrew Neil!I don't know whether he was trying to recreate the environment found on The Jeremy Kyle Show, but I found him to be rude, aggressive and at times insulting. At no point did he allow the candidates to put forward their policies. TheThe whole point of the debate was to let the candidates and audience air their views. Andrew Neil allowed neither of these things to happen, and by the end of the debate I was sick of the sound of his voice.Andrew Neil should be ashamed of his performance last night. Londoners wantan informed debate. The BBC should take note!
