Chantelle Preston 01:15am Hopefully I'm not going mad, but has anyone else reported an earthquake / shaking house in west London (Chiswick) at 12.57 am Wednesday Feb 27th 2008? Will 01:16am At approximately 1.00 am there appeared movement in my house, and the remnants of my nightcap was seen to be rippling in the glass. Was this an Earth Tremor? Tony in Chingford 01:18am My whole room just shook! Very weird indeed. Lasted about 10 seconds. I’m in Finsbury Park. Luke McCall 01:23am I live on the 3rd floor of a building in Barking, and i felt a tremor as well like a lot of, other people i was really surprised and had no idea what had caused it, still it was pretty interesting. Marvin. 01:27am Hi, I was working on my laptop sitting on the 14th floor of my resience building in Manor Park London E12 when I was Shaken by the tremors for about 4 to 5 seconds at 00: 55 hours approx . Is there anything serious? Rajiv 01:27am I was lying in bed just before 01.00 on Wednesday 27th Feb and felt a clear earth tremor which woke me up. I had felt the Dudley earthquake a few years ago and this felt more significant, because there were two or three different tremors over a period of about 20-30 seconds. The wardrobe shook during the tremor. Steve Chamberlain 01:29am Central London shook at about 1.05am. Fellow architecture students and I all working late tonight felt it - did we imagine this? Amelia Rule 01:32am I live nine floors up in a tower block in Hoddesdon. At about one this morning I felt a strange sensation in the small of my back and realised I could feel the wall shaking through the sofa... I looked around and my plants were swaying. One fell over, and my work lamp swayed and fell back against the wall. I could feel the floor moving under my feet. This all lasted a few seconds and when it eased off I got up and looked out of the window. I saw the security guard downstairs come out of his office; he looked puzzled so I rang him. He said that his CCTV had been shaking and he was scared and wasn't sure who to call. I called the police to see if they had received any reports of explosions or other odd events and they said they had felt it too in Welwyn. It was very disorientating and quite strong! Most unexpected of Hertfordshire. Julie Stringer 01:35am Hi, I am in Lambeth, I felt there was an earthquake around 1 am. 01:37am I was woken up at 1.00am by the earth tremor. I live in Chelsea London. Wendy Workman 01:46am My flatmate and I were most disorientated when our third floor flat in Marylebone started shaking at 1.00am. Suzy the cat was most disconcerted by the tremor too! Carol 02:04am Here in London (Clapham, SW4), I was catching up on some late night work at my desk early this morning (1am) when I noticed the desk trembling. Looking up towards the window, a lantern on a shelf was shaking and I wondered for the first time if a tube line ran underneath the flat. For a moment, I considered that there might be a minor tremor but dismissed that as ridiculous. Oli 07:40am We felt the earthquake in Brimsdown, Enfield - Oshun I went to bed just before 1am after doing some reading. I got into bed & about five minutes later I turned over onto my left side & thought I had imagined the bed had moved. I thought it might have been my cats jumping on the bed but neither were there & they're not that strong to move the bed. I thought nothing of it until i was on the train this morning & overheard two ladies talking about an earthquake. When i got back home i put on the television & watched the news which confirmed there had been an earthquake at 1am & it then made sense. I wasn't imagining the bed moving. I was up at that time lastnight and felt nothing but with the epicenter not even close to me it's not suprising. The clips show houses up north are very badly built if most of the affected homes had the chimney stack fall in. Personally if it wasnt for the clips and damage like so many others it could be passed as a joke "UK hit by earthquake" what next as we have already had a hurricane of 87, tornadoes and flooding all I think left is wild fire that takes days to put out. Not that I want to put a jinks on it. Peter Tugwell I live and watch the BBC in the South of France. As it happened I went to bed just before 2am local time (1am UK time). It is normally very quiet here and I did not notice any effects as I checked and locked my outbuildings. However... I particularly noticed the large number of DOGS BARKING!!! Not just the odd one or two but dozens all over my valley!! It was so unusual that I stood outside and could not account for it..... until now! last updated: 28/02/2008 at 14:45 You are in: London > Radio > 94.9 Information > About Us > Londoners describe earthquake PodcastDownload or subscribe to this programme's podcast |
