BBC London Travel's Steve Phillips

Steve Phillips presents travel on BBC LONDON 94.9fm and on BBC One Breakfast weekdays.

Favourite day and night out in London

During the day, a river pub and The Prospect and Captain Kidd in Wapping are picturesque, and The Easton in Clerkenwell has some great memories.

Flavour of the month right now is The Gun on the Isle of Dogs, which is right on the river opposite the Dome. Oh, okay, any pub.

This might suggest that I spend every day in the pub, I really don't and you really shouldn't. Just the odd one at Christmas. But you should go to the Isle of Dogs, it's a hidden gem.

At night, out with friends or the flicks! Or both together! The Electric in Notting Hill with big leather seats with footstalls, sofas available, bar at the back, and a huge expanding screen. Bet Barry Norman goes there.

Favourite tube station

Hainault on the Central line, you never forget your first. Though there's an interesting site about London's disused or 'ghost' stations which you end up spending hours on! Go look!

What one thing would improve travelling in London?

Like Kate says (see her page), all night tubes would be great, oh and air conditioning!

What's your antidote to nightmare journeys?

Dream journeys.

Favourite book to read on the tube

Depends on the length of the tube line, so it's War and Peace for the District and any old pamphlet on the Waterloo and City.
