Just like Spitalfields and Camden, plans are now afoot to modernise it. Landlords Greenwich Hospital have wanted to modernise the market for some time. There were rumours of it being demolished and replaced with a block of flats but finally the plans have been unveiled.
![]() What the market could look like The proposals were shown to the public at an exhibition in Greenwich. Shop owners and market traders have also been in consultation with Greenwich Hospital, the market's landowners. Part of the plans include; a new glass roof built high above the market, permanent stalls inside which would see the market open more than the current four days a week. A boutique hotel could also be designed in keeping with the original architecture. The shops buildings built in the 1950's would be demolished and replaced. This would mean existing shop owners would have to be re-housed somewhere else until the renovation was complete. ![]() The market in 1946 Local people and concerned parties are encouraged to contact Greenwich Hospital with their views.
