You wouldn't think that many teachers would say no to a new school. But Hank Roberts feels that there isn't enough information regarding the proposed academy which could encroach on a much used local playing field.

Hank Roberts is a teacher at a secondary school in Wembley. He, along with a group of teachers and local residents, have camped out on the grounds of a local playing field and occupied trees to protest against plans to build a school on a local playing field.

Protesters object to the sale of the land for the development of the privately-run city academy. They feel that the sports ground is invaluable to the community and fear that it will be lost to those who use it on a regular basis

Hank and other protesters want the academy to be built on an alternative site in the south of the borough where they feel there is more need for another secondary school.

The Commission for Racial Equality and the protesters both know that the South of Brent is where the need for a new school is. The North of Brent is very well provided for schools, the South isn't.

I submitted an objection to Brent Council's proposals on behalf of Brent Trades Council, along with many other people. Brent Council hasn't responded to me or anyone else I know. Also, the Commission for Racial Equality has put in an objection to Brent Council's proposals. Brent desperately needs another school, but not in an area which has so much traffic already. The Council should do the sensible thing, and put the school in Stonebridge.

Its fantastic to see some action against both academies and the loss of London's sports fields. Academies are a complete waste of space, they only achieve an improvement in standards when they introduce a selective intake.

What an excellent story, it's great to see the BBC highlighting important local issues. As a resident of Brent I have been very impressed by the dignified and respectful way in which this protest has been conducted. It is a disgrace that our teachers have been forced into this type of action. The massive support for their cause within the local community is a justified tribute to their dedication & hard work. The issue of state education affects the whole Nation, well done to the BBC for bringing this groundbreaking action to a wider audience.
