Festival Hall re-opening weekend programme
Around 18,000 performers from around the UK, including amateur choirs and schoolchildren from London, will take part in The Overture, a weekend of free celebrations to mark the re-opening of the Royal Festival Hall...
Inside the new auditorium
A host of activities ranging from music and dance to film and visual arts are in the offing over the course of the 48 hours.
A £91m two-year project has restored the Grade I listed Festival Hall to its former modernist glory.
The 2,788-seater auditorium now has upgraded acoustics, under-seat air conditioning and increased leg-room.
The venue's inaugural weekend between 8 and 10 June "reflects an exciting change in emphasis at the Southbank Centre," said artistic director Jude Kelly.
Here's an indication of some of the highlights of a programme containing over 100 separate events:
Friday 8 & Saturday 9 June: Tower Bridge Pier to Royal Festival Hall 9pm - 10pm
Friday 8 & Saturday 9 June: Riverside Terraces 11.30pm
Saturday 9 June: Royal Festival Hall 2.30pm & 7pm - 8.30pm
