BBC London's 2012 Anthem - the results!

We launched our hunt earlier this year for a feelgood song to make the city sing and reached five final submissions. Since then you've been voting in droves for your personal favourite, and now at long last we can reveal the winning entry...

We wanted an original song, no longer than three minutes in length, with inspiring lyrics that capture the spirit of London.

Our 2012 Anthem judges

We've now found the tune that'll be on everyone's lips when the Olympics come to town.

The winning song will get huge exposure this summer during the Sing London festival, a unique programme of singing events across the capital between 29 June and 8 July.

The anthem will also be sung in schools across the capital and be available for download on various websites including BBC London and Sing London.

the vote

We had some technical problems during the voting period, for which we apologise, and in particular we apologise to those of you who voted over the Bank Holiday, 26 May - 29 May inclusive.

Due to technical errors we have had to discount many of those votes in the interests of absolute fairness. We had informed our contestants of these difficulties.

But what we were committed to was as fair a process as possible. All the votes have been verified and the results, in reverse order, are as follows:

  • 'Celebrate the Flame' by Sheila Maclurkin and Richard Raven: 7.79% of the vote
  • 'Longest Journey - The Olympic Flame' by Richard Warth: 11.12%
  • 'London City' by Manny G: 22.72%
  • 'London Fields' by Will Kevans, Annie Kevans and Martin Riley: 26.34%

... leaving the winner:

  • 'London Games (City of Dreams)' by Jeff Barnes: 32.02% of the vote.

tune in

Congratulations to Jeff, a music tutor in Eltham SE9, and commiserations to our other contestants.

Tune in to BBC London 94.9 - or listen Online - on Friday 8 June from 12noon to hear Jeff Barnes talking to our own Robert Elms who, along with Dame Kelly Holmes and 94.9's Big George, was on the panel of judges for the final 2012 song selection.

All that now remains is for one lucky voter to be picked at random to win that pair of tickets to Live Earth on 7 July. We'll keep you posted on that!
