During the three days of Le Grand Départ a high profile event is being staged in Hyde Park called ‘The People’s Village’. It's a celebration of cycling.

During the three days of Le Grand Départ a high profile event is being staged in Hyde Park called ‘The People’s Village’. It is a celebration of cycling.

It is promoting cycling as a sport, a leisure pursuit and as a great means of transport that is both inexpensive and good exercise. The number of people cycling in London has doubled over the last five years and all those involved in the weekend’s activities will be actively encouraging others to use pedal power.

The event includes many features such as a display of bicycles from down the ages and other pedal powered vehicles. There is a cycling history roadshow and many opportunities to try out bikes, be it an exercise bike or a Penny Farthing.

There is also a stunning photographic exhibition featuring archive Tour de France material.

The event also celebrates British & French cultures with all manner of exhibits ranging from foods and wines to crafts, fashion and art. Visitors will be able to buy bikes, accessories, food, crafts etc at the show. It will be a family friendly event with special activities for children.

The Venue

The People’s Village will be held on the part of Hyde Park known as the Parade Ground with Park Lane to the East and the Serpentine to the South. The Tour de France Prologue route loops through Hyde Park along Serpentine Road and then returns along South Carriage Drive. The main entrance to The People’s Village will be north of the route.
